Generally agree with this. I would however also consider such things as the pass to the kicker. Was it done under pressure so that, for example, the pass was given to someone who was not a recognised kicker, or given to a kicker who was not in an equivalent relatively comfortable position as you could expect at a scrum. Was there a rushed pass back to a player 20M back and only only a 2M gain in ground etc. So, was the passer of the ball under pressure and had his options cut down? Did the non-offending side have reasonable conditions that could be applied to a scrum?

Yes. That is why I'd call advantage over while ball is in the air. Pre-kick analysis completed but not swayed by outcome.
I, for one, like Roman numerals

    So generally speaking
    Blue knock on
Red gain possession and .. under no particular pressure.. red decides to kick : then advantage is over when he kicks it.

Doesn't matter where the ball ends up

Ah... I was going to ask about this! Thanks CR.

I suppose its viewed as similar to a knock on after a knock on

Was it not the time when he stated, very quickly, along the lines of, "my mistake, if it had not been taken back into 22 it was advantage over"? Not a major mistake, just an "advantage over ... not yet" call. Better to correct it than go with original thought.
Be reasonable - do it my way.
