    Default Achilles - lesson

in a previous fred, deeps (i think) mentioned a regime he follows re: warm ups and warm downs etc to help achilles at his advanced age ...

i said that i follow a similar regime religiously ... well i do .. except once.
A cuppla weeks ago, i was reffing a Sarries Colts match. Nice day, sun out. flat pitch. Warmed up ok and felt good, but Forgot to put my insoles in my moulded studded boots.
40 mins gone, no issues. Then the rain and hail etc came down. The surface changed to become slippery, so my calves/achilles over extended. The insoles would have prevented the extra extensions ... too late - by the end i was hobbling.
A week later ... i refereed again on sand in Barcelona with insoles etc .. but the damage was done and the sand kept giving way so extending my calves/ achilles again.
I rested during the week and reffed again on Sat. I was able to jog through a L12 match but was not able to sprint, so rested again during the week.
I went on a jog on Thursday. Some twinging but was ok. So, i upped the intensity and sprinted up a hill ... well part way as my achilles rebelled and i ended up in agony.
    Now i am crook.
    A weekend off!!
lesson ... at the first signs of injury .. stop! and REST !!
    Achilles - rest completely.
but dont forget prevention ... prevention is always best!

    Too true.

I have had to retire from active refereeing following incessant achilles problems, over the past two years - even 6 months no strain on them excercise didn't help in the end. It got to the point that I culd run for 30 minutes, hobble for 50, and then limp for about a week.

ANY Achilles problem - get it looked at properly, and take professional advice.

Mine have been sore for a couple of weeks now and have invested in some good heal supports, which seem to help. Have to say this hard ground isn't helping though.

google it my friend. I have seen it work miracles on my race horses, teammates and me personally. should be able to get it at a tack shop (horse supplies) or a natural cures type of store.

How much money have you got?

I take it this stuff is within the reach of mere mortals with or without shitty tendons?

I had a quick google and saw a report on the effects on bladder function. I'll stick with sore tendons if the alternative is pissing my pants every 10 minutes.
