Interesting call in the Toulouse Harlequins game. Lynagh kicked a 50-22. Contact with the ball was clearly beyond halfway but his standing foot was possibly in his own half. French TV didn't like it as the replayed it Numerous time unike the kick chase where Kinghorn was probably ahead of the kicker. Surprised TMO didnt reall check either incident.

Haven’t seen it, but a couple of thoughts.

The first is what counts as being in one’s own half? If you have a boot touching the half-way line are you in your half or outside of it? We have the 22 is considered as inside the 22, but I can’t see any equivalent for the half-way line. Maybe we’re about to get some clarification?

The second is around how close was the ball to the 22 when it went out? If Lynagh had been fully inside his half would it have made any difference? Just wondering if it was a case of it being “immaterial” and elite refs just not wanting to call infringements that are legally accurate but could be seen as pedantic by the average punter … like feet inside the field for lineouts, balls never being fed straight at the scrum, PKs taken 3 or 4 steps in front of the mark, flopping into the ruck, et., etc.

So excellent knowledge of the law by the ref, or protecting the product - take your pick.

Happy with the call.

Foot was clearly on/inside the line, Id deem the line question to be the same as any other line. If you're touching it then youre inside, same as 22.
