In the recent Ireland v Scotland W6N game, Ireland's driving maul goes over the goal line (at 33 mins game time). Blue 12 comes in from the side and holds the ball up. Ref decides no try and restarts with a GLD.

At the time I was puzzled that a penalty try wasn't awarded as 12 clearly comes in from the side. On reflection was the maul over as soon as the ball crossed the line, therefore there was no offside and the hold up was good, or did the ref team get this one wrong?

On your description, Blue 12 is legal and the ref got it right.

No maul in-goal. 16.16.c
