The phrase more money than sense springs to mind.

If the alternative is the stadium rotting away then good luck to MP. They had to move anyway.

I played against MP in 1995 in North East II as they moved through the leagues.

I banged my head and had 10 weeks off work with double vision!!

I wonder if someone at MP has had a bang on the head?

Mowden is my local club (am a volunteer coach and my son is in the minis) so have some inside track, and it's generally good, they're cash rich at the moment (but wary) and actually bought a lot of surrounding land as well as the stadium, and have almost completed 2 floodlit pitches and plans for a 3G pitch

They've employed a commercial manager to utilise the facilities, events, conferencing, hospitality, restaurant etc and it looks really exciting. Still early days but think they're being sensible. A lot of options with visiting national teams as a training base for RWC next year too (SA and All Blacks been to take a look)

On the pitch there's some amazing Rugby, and attendances growing too, some argument that promotion, financially might actually be a bad thing this year, next year I think was the target. Long term aim is knocking on the door of the championship in 5 years

Fingers crossed!

That's fantastic news. I played a (very) few games for them in mid-80s - very much the Darlington 2nd club then, but extremely friendly and welcoming, on their pitch in the middle of a housing estate - I suspect that is now built over? Good luck to them.
