Has anyone heard of or experienced use of the Orange card?
I Was at an RFU run seminar a few weeks ago and the subject came up that abuse of match officials is creeping into our game.
Somebody mentioned there had been a trial in the Gloucester, maybe, grass roots area where refs could “issue” an orange card if they felt they were getting too much abuse from players or spectators.
Clubs would have a dedicated person to deal with this before any further escalations.
As somebody who has suffered and reported this over the years I think this is a great idea.
It highlights to everyone present that enough is enough and will encourage clubs to act before situations get out of hand.
I guess the Orange card would be reported without sanctions but if it was happening regularly things would escalate.
For the record, I’ve had incidents over the years when I’ve spoken to responsible club officials at games and problems have been removed. I’ve also been well supported by my society on the rare occasion formal paperwork has been necessary.
Any thoughts?
