England v Wales U18 6N...

England have just scored a try right at the death (70 minute games I presume?) to be one point behind Wales. They have the conversion to go in fornt.

Listen to the commentary and the remarks coming up very soon...
(video time 1:40:50)

Interesting advice from the ref? Thoughts?

(Of course the kicker may have asked him but that isn't heard or commented on)

Just game management? I skimmed through and saw a conversion (34:57 vid time) and can’t see any shot clock. I suspect that means the ref *is* the shot clock, and he was just doing what a lot of us do and keeping the kicker clued in on the time they have left.

hmmm.. so saying "if you wait a minute its time up" is a verbal shot clock? It may be of course - Im trying to ascertain that.

If the players have no other way of understanding what time is left on the referee's watch, then one should certainly tell them where it is reasonable to do so. It's not so much a 60 sec shot clock, as 'take longer than 60 secs and the game will be over; take less than 60 secs and the match is re-starting; whether you kick within 90 secs is up to you!". In that situation, the player should be given the information so that he can kick at the right time. He should still get a warning at, say 10 secs to go, that he is in danger of leaving it too late.

That's still not what the ref allegedly said.

There is a difference between

"You have a minute left to kick"

and

"If you wait a minute before kicking, the game is over"

Surely?

Is it any different to saying (at the end of a game)...if you kick the penalty straight out you get a lineout. If you tap it first its game over.

i dunno. I'm asking you guys - is it acceptable for a referee to coach players? especially at the highest levels (as opposed to Old Twatbaggians' U13 2nd team)

After all...

That’s not how I see it.

Ballsed up lineout at 69:30, scrum awarded but doesn’t get set up until the time has hit 70. The try was scored in the red.

For me the ref is just keeping the player aware the 90s clock has already started and they have 60s left make the conversion attempt. Take the kick or run down the clock and either way it’s game over and the ref just made sure the player knew his situation.

(Technically, yes they could decline the try, or defenders’ behavior could trigger an extra kick but didn’t happen here.)

However.
I am trying to work out why they had the last lineout, the one that led to the try. First lineout, England mess up and Wales got the scrum. clock is red as the Wales SH puts in. Wales keep the ball and try to clear but end up passing the ball into touch. It wasn’t deliberate, so not a PK.

So why didn’t the game end then?

The video clocks aren't showing real game time, that's the issue.

Check this out - the video clock is red - and the ref tells Georgia there is still seven minutes to go!

Well, that’s a bit crap - and does explain that last England lineout.

I wonder why they couldn’t have quickly updated the screen clock to 63 when the ref confirmed 7 left?

my guess is there is no correlation at all between the video people and the ref.
