How did you get on?

I hear you on the speed of thought.

For the tourney, I was a little slower off the mark and getting to the right spot but physically held up. Game scan was a bit rusty, took a few rucks to get back in the groove. A little stiff and nothing worse than DOMS in the quads next day but all good.

Weather was foul - soaked to the skin in the 50 yard walk from car to pitch and stayed soaked all day. Both fields were turf so no quagmire.

Unfortunately, ran a quick HS match on Tuesday and my knee has swollen up. Soft field and wondering if it was running in cleats that aggravated it.

So… getting there - just taking longer than I want. Have a week to recover then a double header next Friday and following Sunday (was also asked to cover on Saturday too, but I still want 24h to recover for now.)

Only 1 friendly and an U18 game on over the whole Easter weekend in Cumbria. In days gone by there would be multiple touring games on. I guess those days are long gone. Anyway off up on the train today to watch the RL derby Whitehaven v Barrow. Should be a good day out if the weather holds!

This weekend

N2N L4 AR2

Hull Ionians v Sheffield

13th v 3rd - depending what happens elsewhere this could see the end of Ionians at L4. Sheffield looking to maintain 3rd place with no chance of overhauling Rotherham and Leeds.

Sydney Junior Gala Day 2 on Sunday.

4 x 25min halves with 7 different U14 teams. Only a 5min break between each half for me, so great start of season fitness!

26C and Sunny for the day- but an "East Coast Low" will bring lots of Rain this Thu, Fri and Sat - so who knows what condition the grounds will be in.

Still testing out the fitness and building up volume and reducing the time between. Double header on Friday for HS boys on turf (hoping easier on the knee). U14 run out on Sunday morning on the same grass pitch that irritated my knee last week.

Both should be on the cool side (7C/45F and breezy) but sunny on Sunday.

This weekend - two games.

Saturday sees me travel to a club I have never been to:
L10 - Newton le Willows 1 v Crosby St Mary’s 1 - a big top of the table clash between 2nd and 4th - suspect whoever wins will make a late charge for promotion in the NOWIRUL.

Then on Sunday a Colts Cup Semi-Final between a L7 U17 side and a L9 U17 side - suspect it’ll be a case of keeping abreast of a lot of breakaways rather than anything else. Aldwinians U17 v Chester U17

This weekend

N2N L4 AR2

Wharfedale v Huddersfield.

Weather looks shit which is not good at 800’ above sea level.

4th v 14th. Huddersfield relegated last week and Wharfedale only scrapping out 4th 5th with Fylde.

Ionians and Billingham both winning last week keeps the 13th place dogfight going for at least one week.

Cup game this weekend. Leek v Walsall.

Last weekends cup game I forgot to check the regs, and it ended in a draw with the final conversion after time.
Collected coaches and captains together and borrowed a phone to look up the regulations for a draw. Team with most Tries won (4 - 5).

This weekend I have checked the regs, and just as well, because its a different cup and a different set of instructions for a draw.

One laugh from tonight.

Decent game, well handled by the man in the middle (not me) including a general warning for high tackles.

We've all gathered for a meat pie - free for the officials - and a can of something of cold(sih). General chit chat, inclduing the skipper who got the general warning. Lovely fella, if a little leaguie.

His team have won, and I'm doing tyem in the final next week.

"Oh, Xavier - don't forget, general warnings apply from the semi to the final. So youre starting on the general"
"Wait. So, OK, on a general. Got it. Does that include the players who..."

I absolutely had him, and could have strung that out if the people around me hadn't started laughing.

Still in the height of college 7s season, this time in Champaign. Fingers crossed for more competitive games - of the seven games I had Sunday, only two were not blowouts.

4th official for the on/off/on/off/on Cumbria Cup Final Carlisle v Penrith at Aspatria.
I think Penrith have made it without playing a game, then Carlisle couldn't field a team on the proposed/rearranged date due to a club stag do on what they thought was a blank Saturday so Penrith were going to retain the cup by default. Then half the clubs in the North of England, and I suspect other regions dropped out of the Papa Johns cup freeing up a date so the game is now on!
You couldn't make this stuff up.

Maybe start a new thread on how cup competitions are going. Not very well up here that's for sure.

I’m not aware of anyone in Durham at L7 or below that entered (or are still in) the Papa John’s cup other than Sunderland (who had to drop out of the County Cup as it clashed)

I have Gateshead (L8) vs Westoe (L7) in the Cup 2nd round this weekend

As mentioned previously, it's Grand Final time.

Kick off at 6. No, 630. Hang on, we'll get back to you.

It's the last ever game at Anzac Oval before it gets torn down. I'm sure we'll have the kind of match for the occasion....

Well, you shouldn't be getting any complaints about noise.....but if you do, be afraid....very afraid.

Would the planning consultation involve town hall meetings, questionaires, Ouija Board etc?

Cue puns.... make no bones about it, grave complaints, dying to get in there, reduced squad size aka skeleton crew, be in the dead centre of town.
